Don't be Adult
This project aimed to develop a fashion collection of menswear, revealing a new type of masculinity:relax, street, utility, sport, nature, nostalgia and formal, inspired by a chatting with my friend.
During the chatting, my friend told me that he felt annoying of always wearing suit or white T-shirt to work instead of jean and sports jacket, since most companies require staff to wear formal clothes to work.
I remember a book written about a group of boys and girls who dropped out of school in the UK in the 20th century. They took off their children’s clothing, put on suits and coats and went to work in the factory.
I tried to think about how they feel like when wearing these clothes. A word called “mature and steady” came to my mind.
I have a funny idea of cutting the formal clothes to show my inside sport clothes. Like a child tearing off what he doesn’t like and putting on what he likes.
I have searched the daily clothes of young people and found that 90% of them like to wear casual clothes, and 60% of them like to wear clothes with prints and three-dimensional patterns.
I have also searched some office clothes. I cut every part of clothes by using the collage art way, and put some colorful pictures together.
Collage art is a technique of art creation. It uses magazine and newspaper clippings, ribbons, paint, bits of colored or handmade papers, portions of other artwork or texts, photographs and other found objects, glued to a piece of paper or canvas.
The shape is chosen by oversize clothes of the formal. I want to express a sense of funny coming from children wearing adult clothes.
This series is design for all young people who always have to go to work wearing suit or white T-shirt. I hope these clothes can add some fun to their boring work life.
