Daphne Metamorphosis is a project inspired by the myth of Apollo and Daphne, which tells the story of an impossible love. It was Cupid, the God of love that cursed Apollo to a continuous search for a feeling not reciprocated by the beautiful Daphne. She was terrified of that God who so longed for her, and escaped until he could hold her. At that moment the metamorphosis of Daphne started, turning her into a laurel tree. The designer Federica Santini interpreted this as a violence against women, something that is still very present in today’s society. She therefore envisioned a collection divided in three phases: a very dark one, a medium one and a very light one. The colors in the collection are inspired by nature and they change to symbolise the rebirth of this woman who had suffered violence. They go from the black of the forest and night to the green of the leaves and the blue of the sky, indicating this metamorphosis from a place of suffering to a place of healing.
Benedetta De Nardis Di Prata
My name is Benedetta de Nardis, I am 21 years old and I come from Turin. Since I was a child, I have always been very creative: I loved to draw, create things manually, invent stories. Later on, I discovered the world of fashion, which lightened a passion in me I did not know I had. I read a lot of magazines, cutting pages of the outfits I loved and pasting them on my drawer. I also helped my family members or friends getting dressed. I love fashion because it is constantly changing, as it is in need of constant creativity and innovation: it never stays the same.
